A couple of months after South Africa’s historic triumph over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, the two teams will lock horns once again but this time in the shortest format as they look to one up each other in the first of 3-match T20I.

South Africa, meanwhile, have constantly talked about the fact that they have moved on from the WTC final win with the 2026 T20 World Cup their next target. The Proteas who lost in the final to India in the last edition in 2024 will be playing 20 T20I matches before the next edition rolls in. They’ll be looking at the Australia series to start on a positive note.
Australia, meanwhile, have already been playing the format after that WTC loss, thrashing a hapless West Indies 5-0 in June and July. South Africa also played a T20I Tri series vs New Zealand and Zimbabwe but lost all the three matches they played there. They were, however, without their big guns like captain Aiden Markram, David Miller and Kagiso Rabada to name a few.
